Not ashamed
There isn’t much better reading on the subject of faith in the Bible than Hebrews 11. Known as the “Hall of Faith,” it is a dizzying recitation of people who chose to believe God, even when some of their natural eyes never saw what they were believing for. Do I have that kind of faith? The faith to simply trust God? God is not ashamed to be called their God. Heb 11:16b Wow. God was … read on, my friend…
Good things
(Doesn’t that phrase just make you happy?) Good. Things. Good things. What are good things and why should we care about them? Good things, the best things, are things you can touch, like kisses and hugs. They are things you can’t, like laughter—and tears. They are things that cost money, like a safe home. And things that are free, like a smile. Good things are everywhere and nowhere. We care about them because they somehow … read on, my friend…
It’s pouring
I am trying to keep my word for the year in the front of my mind. Pour. I am a seeker, searching meanings and clues to what this word means in my life this year. I want to be truly transformed by this idea of pouring. “Pour” denotes an activity, which is very different than emptying. Being emptied is passive, it can happen without your consent or participation. Things can happen every day to empty … read on, my friend…
Embracing hope
Hope is sometimes not easily embraced. When in the throes of trouble sometimes it is easier to hold hope at arm’s length, to wallow in the negative feelings of the moment instead of holding hope close to the chest, allowing it to permeate the soul. Hope is all sunshine, warm and life-energizing. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain by embracing the hope that Christ offers. It is not my nature to hold … read on, my friend…

A post on why I wasn’t posting
Okay my attempt to post every day this month has [briefly] fallen apart. But I will pick right back up here. So we are in our second week of record snowfall. I had to stay at the hospital Tuesday night to make sure I could get to work yesterday. I was glad I did but that meant I couldn’t post and I wish I would have post dated something so my silly respectable daily posting … read on, my friend…
I have not yet arrived
The key to success is Christian character. (emphasis mine) Adams, C. G., & Youmans, E. L. (2004). The Noah plan Self-directed study in the principle approach (5). Chesapeake, VA.: Foundation for American Christian Education. It has taken me 7 years on this BPA journey to understand that this is a process. By “this” I mean, living, learning. I do not have to be perfect or “have arrived.” I am on a journey, in a process. … read on, my friend…

Watersong
Rise and fall. The tune is slow and regular. Memory’s shadow floats on a steady breath of salty spray. Mister moon is the conductor of this melody— frothy tones mingled with starlight. Briny echoes of happier times— ripples of love’s tender ease— found lapping at your mind’s shore each time you close your eyes and hold its iridescent home to your ear. ©Anna-Marie Hawthorne
Peace
I was snuggling with my almost 3 year old this morning. He had his ear to my chest when he suddenly exclaimed, “Oh! I hear your feelings!” “What do they sound like?” “Like a roar bear.” He doesn’t know how right he is. My emotions are like a whirlwind, a howling storm of misplaced desires with a flurry of unanswered questions. What is to be done when the storm that rages is on the inside? … read on, my friend…
Homeschool secret sauce
Ever had something so finger lickin’ good that you just had to have the recipe? So you work up the courage to ask and when you get it you realize you can’t duplicate it because there’s one ingredient you don’t have–secret sauce. It’s a blend of spices and flavorings so potent, so tasty, so irresistible that you can’t help eating it until your tummy aches. Even then you want more. You liked it so much … read on, my friend…
