What does the term “book arts” mean?

It’s sort of a catch-all term for anything having to do with making handmade books. It can include books, surface design and decorated papers and even custom boxes for books to live in.

What is an aritst book?

It is a book that is created so that content, form and concept are in harmony. It can look like a traditional book or it can be crazy, but it is still an artist book.

To make a handmade book what basic supplies will I need?

You will need paper for the text block (the “guts” of the book), davey board or cardboard, paper for covers, glue, a credit card or bonefolder for creasing paper, a paper cutter, an X-Acto knife or other cutter, a straight edge metal ruler, an awl, a pencil and space to work. With these basic supplies you can make many basic types of books.
