R Road book giveaway

I haven’t had a contest in a long time and I love this book, so I thought I would give away a copy to a fortunate reader.rroadcover

Lisa Hodgen’s new book Freedom & Simplicity on the R Road to Biblical Wisdom: A “How to” Guide to Biblical Learning in Home Education is one of new favorite books. I reviewed it at The Curriculum Choice so I won’t rehash it here. Just know that I think this book gets you where you want to go in your home education journey–Wisdom’s house.

How do you win? Leave a comment about something related to Biblical wisdom–a scripture, a question or just a comment. And please read the review before you enter so you have a good idea of what the book is about. One entry per person please. I will draw randomly from all entries stamped by 9pm CST on August 31, 2009. If the winner does not claim the prize within 7 days another winner will be chosen.

I think the pursuit of knowledge apart from God is futile. I like Tom Eldridge’s quote which says: “Knowledge is, therefore, to be prized only inasmuch as it enables us to better love and serve the Lord, our family and our neighbors. ”
I thought that sums up biblical wisdom :-)

  2. Just want to start by stating that I greatly appreciate the wisdom that you and Lisa have shared on the principles group. I find you both an inspiration to us newbies. Plus, if I don’t get the free e-book and going to try real hard to talk my husband into agreeing to the purchasing of it.

Thanks, again, for the wisdom and encouragement the two of you have given to the rest of us.

  3. The bible is the inspired word of God, so I’m all for a book that helps me learn more about the wisdom that comes from God. We need all the encouragement we can get on this journey. Thanks so much!!!

  4. I have almost everything Lisa H. has written. At least a few of her things but not this. This is definitely a contest worth entering!! You and Lisa are so kind to be doing this. Good luck everyone.

  5. I would like to enter the drawing for the free R Road to Biblical Wisdom. Thanks!!

In response to an exhortation from our last pastor, we encourage our children to read through the entire Bible regularly, to just saturate themselves in it in order to “have the mind of Christ.” Most of them take a year but one daughter finishes in 6 months and then memorizes a short book. Even though they are not stopping to “study” along the way and even if they don’t understand everything they’re reading (who does with the Bible?) I am amazed at them. Give them a verse without a reference and they can pin down pretty closely which book and some even to chapter and verse because they are familiar with the individuality of each writer and their message. By reading the whole counsel of God they are not easy prey for preachers who build whole philosophies on one verse of Scripture. It is the Word of God, quick and powerful; soak yourself in the water of the Word every day.

  9. I’m really looking forward to our upcoming school year and plan to visit http://www.principledmom.com weekly for encouragement and ideas.

    Have a blessed year!

  10. Hey!!!

This is exciting. Thanks for that peek into your Open House…let’s me know I’m not the only one..LOL!!!! Anyway, I love Lisa’s stuff. She breaks BPA down into manageable bites and shows the practical outworking of BPA. The message that really resonates with me re: BPA is that IT IS AS THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADS YOUR FAMILY. I was sooooooooooooo caught up in “we should do it this way, or this lesson plan says to do it that way” with BPA. I was so worn out I threw the books away and just sought God and loved my children and just became mommy. That season of relationship building provides a part of the foundation for our learning(I believe). Anyway, I’ve been able to post some of what I”ve been learning on my blog…don’t want to rehash it all here. Thanks for the contest!

  11. I’ve enjoyed reading your helpful comments through the yahoo group, so thank you very much. I am a newbie PA-er, but so enjoying it thus far.

I love seeking the Lord’s wisdom!

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
    Heb 4:9

  12. Thank you for reviewing this ebook. I am new to homeschooling and new to the principle approach, so reviews really help me to sort through all that’s out there. It sounds like this book really helps to make wisdom practical. I think that may be the biggest struggle for me in getting started with this approach. I appreciate all that you and many others have done in your reviews and helpful blogs. I know I will be referring to these sites over and over again. Thanks!

  13. “Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.” Prov 10:17

  14. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.
I really, really, really want this book!!! ( :
Thanks for having a giveaway Anna!

  15. Wisdom is building the foundation of my life on God, the Rock, by knowing, loving, and obeying Him. (Based on Luke 6:46-49)

  16. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about wisdom is the verse in James 3:17:

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this book! And for all your encouragement on this homeschool/wife/mom journey. So glad to be on it with you! You are a God-send to me.
