Measurable goodness giveaway

I am so geeky about all my bookbinding tools. I love my almond-scented Italian glue, my wooden bone folder, my Japanese punch. They inspire me every time I pick them up.

One tool I often reach for is my set of brass rules. They make measuring super simple, because I don’t often plan ahead and have to do things one-handed. They are incremental and super handy for all sorts of things, from books to boxes to most any craft project where you need a standard measurement. I use them for drawing lines, spacing and folding paper.

Since I have two sets I thought I would pass on an extra set to a fortunate commenter. This set is still in the package from Hollander’s.

To enter: simply leave a comment telling me that you that you don’t already own a set and that you promise you will use them. One entry per person please.

If you promote this giveaway on Twitter you can leave a comment for an extra entry (making a total of two).

Deadline: April 30, 2009 at 9pm CST. Best of luck to you all!

my goodness this is a very generous giveaway! I don’t have a set of these and I absolutely promise to use them if I am the very lucky winner!

  9. Elissa says:

I’m not leaving a comment to win – I already own a set of them.

I just wanted to agree that brass rules are so super-great. You don’t really realize just how fabulous they are until you have them and use them for a while…then you repeatedly ask yourself, “Why didn’t I get these sooner?”

    Good luck!

  24. How generous of you to share! I’d love a set, I make alternative journals–not the nice neat ones with coptic stitching, but fun nevertheless.
I noticed a “Chrstian Paper Artists” sign on the left of the blog, which may be an ad or an identifier. So I’ll fess up in case it makes a difference: I’m not Christian.

  25. Anna-Marie says:

    Quinncreative,

so glad you entered. No need to be a Christian to win, you only need to want them! (But maybe it wouldn’t hurt to say a prayer that you might win…) ;)

I thought maybe you were busting me about it being an ad below the “ad free” notice. It’s simply a group I belong to. Thanks for stopping by.

  26. Nicholas says:

Your blog was a great find for me today, and a contest to boot. I am new to the book binding scene and would very much love to have these tools. It would make for a good replacement of my handmade crafted ones.

    Thank you kindly,

    Nicholas

  27. Hey Anne-Marie–
Not busting chops at all. Just being careful and up-front. When I did art shows, I did a number of religious conventions. I always mentioned that I wasn’t Christian in my application. Some conventions were inclusive, others thought it violated the purpose of their convention. Totally up to them.

I loved the comment about praying to win. That was funny! I rarely pray for personal gain, but it may be worth it. Those brass rules are very cool!

  28. Susan Green says:

    Hi Anna,

I’ve been looking for a set like these for some time – under various guises including ’spacer bars’.

I don’t have any and would certainly find them very useful when allowing for joint space when constructing cases for my flat-back hardback books, and for allowing for turn-ins of leather and paper, too.

I currently improvise with hand-cut spacer bars made from millboard, but they’re not quite accurate enough for my needs.

Goodness, this is an essay! Anyway, nice of you to run this competition.

    Best wishes,
    Susan Green
