hope for the guilty heart
It’s so easy as a home educator to “feel guilty.” There’s no shortage of stuff to feel guilty about concerning our kids (whether the guilt is deserved or not): too much free time, not enough social time with friends, not enough rigorous academics, too much sugar, too late getting to bed, too little spiritual discussion/application, too little fun and games, too much yelling… The Holy Spirit reminded me of a scripture today and I wanted … read on, my friend…
Shalom and Hatikvah
Today is Israel’s 60th birthday. What a miracle this little country is! To celebrate this momentous occasion, there is lots of activity at the Jerusalem Post you can take part in, from sending Israel an E-card to viewing highlights of the last 60 years. You can also check out celebrations happening all around Israel. Our city has a sister city in Israel: Tiberias. This isn’t really public knowledge I guess but I was glad to … read on, my friend…
warning: mommy love overload imminent
Some of you have been asking about the baby. He’s two months old already. WOW! Time flies. How cute is he? He wakes each day with lots and lots of smiles, smiles so big his eyes become little slits. He’s cooing little sweet nothings to us and loves to snuggle. Here are my other little blessings: Sophia has just completed her 3rd year of piano class. Next year she will start private lessons and she is … read on, my friend…

food for (book) thought
Every year around April Fool’s Day there is a little known but hilarious event known as Books 2 Eat. It is a chance for book artists everywhere to create completely edible works, and the creativity is amazing. See the photos from past years below. The ideas the artists come up with are ingenious. I hope you’ll consider hosting a Books 2 Eat event next year in your area. It’s a wonderful way to meet other … read on, my friend…
What is an artist book?
There is an amazing art form that is taking hold of the art world. It is known as artist books. I can’t say enough good things about them. In their highest form they are the best combination of content, structure and materials the artist can create. They are not just books, they are 3 dimensional art. Here are some links to offer more detailed explanations: Wikipedia Angela Lorenz Otis has this great definition: Artists’ books … read on, my friend…
Mother’s Day cinquain
For my mom’s Mother’s Day gift this year I went the handmade route. I made her a cute little hanging plaque with a poem I wrote just for her. Unfortunately I forgot to scan it before I gave it (sorry!). In case you don’t know, a cinquain is a 5 line poem that goes like this: one word (noun)two adjectives about the nounthree verbs about the nouna four-word phrase about the nounanother word for the … read on, my friend…
The sisterhood of motherhood
Today I had a lovely luncheon with the mothers in my family. The invited them over for a yummy lunch and we had a wonderful time. As I sat aound the table with my mom, grandmother, mother-in-law and sister-in-law I had to smile. We are all unique women. My sister-in-law is Hispanic. My grandmother is 87 and from a very different generation. My mother-in-law only had one child. My mother is a widow. If we were … read on, my friend…
Otis artist books
Otis College of Art and Design has one of the most user-friendly artist book catalogs I’ve come across. This site is great because you can search by things like technique, binding and more. Lots of eye candy but I am not responsible for what you may run across there, as I did not look at every book. Enjoy!
Be my guest
…at Renae’s blog. She was kind enough to ask me to be a guest writer. Hers is one of the 5 blogs that I read faithfully. She’s one of the few online friends I have met in real life and I cherish her friendship. I hope you’ll bookmark her blog because she’s an amazing writer. Thanks Renae! It was my pleasure.
