and now some fun news…

October 21st, 2007 at 4:36 pm. Posted in Journal.

Man I think things have gotten a little serious around here. Well, I thought I’d share a smorgasbord of good news. I attended a seminar on notebooking by Cindy Rushton this last weekend. It was a hoot. (If you’ve never been to an online conference before, you should go if the opportunity presents itself.)

To make a long story short, over the weekend I won three prizes—a $100 gift certificate ( I chose the notebooking set) and a Talk-a-Latte session from Cindy, and one set of French Country pages from Heidi Jo. That was on top of the fabulous door prizes she put together for us, inlcuding a book from Lisa. My BPA buddy Lisa was there too, along with a gaggle of other home educating moms. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone.

I feel a bit refreshed and have a new perspective on what notebooks can do. I was really using them to house our schoolwork, which is not worksheets but original work. She helped me realize that notebooks can be so much more than a place to stick papers. I’m looking forward to this week, when we can try some new (and kind of scary) things. I’m not real good with letting the kids use the markers, glue and paints. How terrible is that? But I’m forging into uncharted waters and we will get out some of my paper arts supplies and enjoy the process and not just rush to the end product. And that’s not all that I’m changing, but let’s take one thing at a time…

Chats are back on now. Feel free to join us for BPA topical chat each Thursday night. Click the chat tab at the top of the page for details. I’m working on some fun things and giveaways for that, so stay tuned.

Oh, and in a week I’ll be halfway through my pregnancy. My how time flies when you are so ill! Things are much better and I’m getting back into life again. The little flutters in my tummy are very comforting. And food actually tastes good to me now. Thank God for small blessings. :)

I’m so glad you are feeling better. Any idea on whether you have boy or girl flutters yet?

Thanks for sharing your goodies. Please include some of your new, improved notebook pages after you’ve completed them.

I need some inspiration, too, so I’ll catch you in the chat room on Thursday. :)

Did I ever tell you that I don’t like surprises? What else are you changing? I guess I’ll just have to come back for more of your wisdom and encouragement.

    Congratulations!
I started a part time job and have missed so much computer & blogging time that I must have missed your important news. Praying the last half will be a blessing!

How exciting! The class sounds like it was great – wish I could have joined! Maybe you will share lots of new ideas you were inspired by? ( :
Glad you are feeling better! May the rest of the pregnancy go very smoothly for you.
Just wanted to tell you thank you for your recommendation of the book ‘If You’re Trying to Teach Kids How to Write…’ book that you blogged about awhile back. I just got it the other day through Paperback Swap and am already so excited about teaching writing now! It changed how I looked at writing completely! What an incredible resource!

    Warmly,
    Mandi

Yes, ladies, I will try to post about some other things. I guess I’m just leery of posting “plans” because they never seem to work out and I think I look flakey. :)

No Renae, I don’t know if my flutters are pink or blue. I would love to know though!

Mandi, I’m so glad the book was all I said it was! lol It really does get you excited about writing with your kids, no? We’ve done several things from that book and I hope to work more into our schedule.

    Congratulations!

And I know what you mean about the paints and children. My eldest adores art and paints almost every day. The younger ones…well…not always.

Yesterday, I didn’t feel up to the mess so I put them both in their bathing suits and sprayed shaving cream all over the shower and just let them play in there during art.
