I'm loving the "pretend vacation" idea - may have to try that out myself, as my son isn't really big enough to get into it yet.

We recently did "toe painting" (there's pictures on my blog) and it was a blast - fingerpaints, on the driveway. Cleaned up with a hose. I think that it would be even more fun if we'd had some of that long paper, but I didn't have any. It's on the wishlist though.

(PS - if you have a minute, could you stop by my blog & leave a note about your favorite phonics book? I'd appreciate it soooo much!)

Thanks for all the great suggestions. It was by no means a comprehensive list. Your children are fortunate to have such dedicated moms!

Mandi, arts and crafts are a must here too, I just had to stop somewhere. Bubbles are so fun as well.

And Renae, sometimes the stuff I want to go IS the little blocks. They seem to multiply! lol

Thanks for the great ideas!

Blocks are my still my son's favorite. Legos are always a good investment.

Some of the rest of the stuff that ends up cluttering my children's room can definitely go.

These are great Anna Marie! I would also include arts and crafts - even water and a paintbrush with a sidewalk on a hot day for a canvas - great chance to teach about evaporation also! ( :

I also have old blankets specifically for fort building - and an old card table can be picked up second hand - in the summer you can even let them take their fortress building materials outside and they can even sleep in their own homemade shelter! Tons of fun ideas! ( :
Thanks for the ideas!
Warmly,
Mandi

Thank you for the reminder! My husband and I have always tried to provide our boys opportunities to use their imaginations. I have to admit they have some wild and crazy ones sometimes. But we fall down every once in awhile and rely on TV, video games or other forms of entertainment for our boys. It is nice to be reminded of the simple things in life.
