Asking myself some tough questions

I have been thinking on this quite often lately: what does it mean to be content? (that is a whole other post) Why am I not content? I have been thinking of this in relation to my little home and family. Is what I am doing really “important?” Is it “significant?” I have been asking myself some serious questions along those lines. What if this is all there is? Well, what if it is? Is that … read on, my friend…

Commitment to loveliness 6/25

What’s not to like? I am definitely in need of some strategic loveliness around here. The beauty of a dream

I love this guy. And I love how just ordinary people all around us can be really extraordinary. It’s a beautiful thing. I hope this boosts his confidence.  And here’s more on his story.

The power of friendship

There are times that I feel like somewhat of a sideshow act. Not only do we home educate, but we use the BPA. Oh,  and we plan our own lessons. And we aren’t involved in a co-op or other home educating trappings (which isn’t a bad thing). I don’t wear denim jumpers  and we watch TV. So Even in the home educating community we are stand-outs. Which also isn’t a bad thing. But it can get a little … read on, my friend…

Never, ever never again

…will I take an iron pill on an empty stomach. Who takes that stuff?? There’s GOT to be a better way than this. All night, all day, so much nausea, etc. etc. that I have felt like a truck ran me over. All from a little pill. Who’da thunk? At least with morning sickness there’s the benefit of the baby. With this, there’s just a wasted day and more laundry. And a sore throat. Well, I … read on, my friend…

When He cometh

And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Malachi 3:17 When He Cometh When He cometh, when He cometh To make up His jewels, All His jewels, precious jewels, His loved and His own. Refrain Like the stars of the morning, His bright crown adorning, They shall shine in their beauty, … read on, my friend…

Why all the American history?

In the younger grades I emphasize American His Story for several reasons:  We strive the think governmentally. Even young children can understand the principles inherent to America’s founding. We can discuss cause to effect, internal to external and expand the principles as they grow. These principles apply to many things, but they are expressed in our form of government, so we can look there. Symbols of America are in all of society. We are surrounded with … read on, my friend…

Summer reading challenge

I’m extending a challenge for the summer. I don’t know about you, but I find myself reading only things r/t home education. I would like to read for my own enjoyment once in a while.  Here’s the challenge: Books must be new to you (that is, you haven’t read them before) 1) 3 non-fiction books on a subject you are interested in that are NOT r/t school 2) 1 fiction work that is not on … read on, my friend…

teaching writers

I am reading this terrific book about children and writing. I literally stumbled across it at a used bookstore and instantly fell in love. One thing jumped out at me right off the bat. I am not teaching writing, I am teaching writers. That little semantic shift made all the difference to me. The Lord has been dealing with me about adding more writing to our home education. Well this book will show you how to spark … read on, my friend…
