Thoughts concerning unit studies
I am not crazy about the term “unit study.” I much prefer “integrated study” but it’s really just semantics, so for the sake of the search engines I will use unit study here. As I was considering again this whole idea of unit study, related to Principle Approach and most importantly to my little lambs, I had some thoughts. Unit studies can be enjoyable. They can also take over your life. If you are not … read on, my friend…
Principles of family prayer (part 3)
Be excited We are not talking about hype or entertainment. It’s more meaningful than that. When we speak to our living God we should be full of anticipation, excitement and joy. Make it real. Kids know when you are just going through the motions, and those prayers are a drag. It’s okay to bring needs to family prayer. It is humbling (and comforting too) to hear your daughter or son pray for your bad attitude … read on, my friend…
Birthday train rolls on…
Well the birthday train is making it’s second stop; this time for me. I am 20578408 years old today and still feel like I’m 17–at least in my mind! Today is going to be fun–shopping, dinner with family, putting together the trampoline we bought for the kids (the weather has been in the 20′s, so the boxes have been on the back patio and the kids often press their noses to the window, looking longingly and anticipating). … read on, my friend…

Needlework goodness
I have been pursuing art in the paper medium, but lately I have been very interested in something more, shall we say, domestic? I have been perusing the web for some vintage patterns for my kitchen towels and other projects. Some links I have found myself frequenting include: Primrose Design Stitch School has amazing tutorials on about twenty stitches and they are not to be missed. If you have wanted to teach your daughter or granddaughter some … read on, my friend…
The Mother at Home
I have been reading through a book online and was so pleased with it that I have ordered a copy from Amazon. The Mother at Home; or the Principles of Maternal Duty by the Rev. John S.C. Abbott is wonderful. You can see it all online here. Flip through it and enjoy his instruction. It is full of practical help and insight into the role and importance of the mother in the home (as our … read on, my friend…
Proof I don’t exist
Well I have suspected something for a while now. I haven’t felt like myself. Something’s been off. Well, now I have proof. Anna-Marie Hawthorne: HowManyOfMe.com There are: 0 people with my name in the U.S.A. How many have your name? There you go–if that is my real name…

Principles of family prayer (part 2)
Principle 2: Be Word-focused When praying with your kids, make sure to include a lot of Scripture. They need to get their prayers from God’s Word, and they need to see what God says about their situation. We must keep our minds fixed on the Lord (1 Cor. 10:3-6). We can’t know everything about a situation. We must get the mind of the Lord, properly applying the Word to the situation. Heb. 4:12 Our children must learn … read on, my friend…
sharing and the language of liberty
Do you make your kids share? That’s the polite thing to do, no? It keeps us from feeling embarrassed around other parents and it makes us feel like we are doing a good thing, raising “giving” children. (We spend a lot of time concerned with feelings, don’t we?…) Katherine Dang has a lot to say about liberty. Sharing is no exception. She challenges the idea of making your child share his belongings. Her take is … read on, my friend…
the birthday train
Yesterday started the birthday train at our house, and it rolls on through May. First on board is my middle daughter, Princess S. She is now a very grown up six years old. She had a fabulous day filled with little gifts, a cool new hot pink Bible (NIV), cards from far-away relatives and lots if well wishes. Around here we like to start our birthdays off with a little token from the “birthday fairy” when … read on, my friend…

conference excitement
I got back Saturday night from the Tyler,TX, conference with Ms. Dang on Proclaiming Liberty to the Nations. It was a wonderful time. But it was cold and rainy and I could not seem to get warm. I kept my coat on all day the first day. And I was so very tired. I went to bed at 9:30 (which I NEVER do). Then I found out why I was so cold and tired. That … read on, my friend…
